LEARN TO FLY

To fly a glider on your own you should take the following steps: :

  •    become a member of aero club “Vaja”
  •     complete the ground course,
  •    take a medical examination and
  •    successfully complete the flying course with instructor.

After you complete all the steps, you win – and you can do your first solo flight.

 

Becoming a member of aero club "Vaja"

      You can become a member of the aero club “Vaja” any day, any time. Pay the one year membership fee to the club account number 355-1010995-42 Vojvodjanska bank. The amount is 3000 dinars (about 40 Euro). Write down your address and that the money is for the membership fee. We will send you your membership card by post.

     Becoming a member of the aero club “Vaja” you will receive two free flights on a glider.

Ground course

     The Basic ground course is held twice a year – in March and in April. The class is held in the afternoons and early evenings. We will inform you about the dates, place and time.

     The course includes 60 lessons. You have to understand and know the basic facts about: theory of flying, aerodynamics, meteorology, flight regulations and glider structure.

     To pass the exam, you are expected to have a good knowledge on all the subjects.

Medical examination

      Members of aero club “Vaja” are expected to do their medical examination at the Yugoslav Airlines Medical Service at Airport “Beograd”. The fee for the examination is 5670 dinars. All applicants must qualify for criteria “C”. JAT Medical Service is registered by the authorities for such examinations.

     Medical examination can also be done at the Occupational Health Medical Service at Novi Beograd.

     The examination must be done before entering the ground course.

Flying course

     The flying instruction is done at airfield “Lisičji Jarak” on a two-seat glider “Blanik L13”. You fly with a competent and certified flight instructor. A towing aircraft takes the glider to the height of 300 meters.

     During the instruction, students have to learn the basics of flying that include: take off, following the aircraft during the tow, making turns and landing. You will need 40 to 50 flights with the instructor before you can make your first solo flight.

     When the instructor decides that you have reached a required competency level, you will be allowed your first solo flight. The acquired knowledge is fixed during the next ten flights and after that you will start with soaring.

     Once you have completed 30 hours of solo flying, you can apply for the sport pilot license. You will be required to pass a written and a flying exam.

     The sport pilot license, issued by a government agency, has international validity.
